Shayne,Almost two and a half years ago I learned that I had a second auto immune system disorder-Sjogrens syndrome.
This syndrome likes to make life interesting. You never know what is going to happen next. My participation in Zumba, yoga, boot camps and personal training sessions with Shirley has helped me recover quicker. This year, my neurologist, cardiologist, gastroenteritis, and my ENT specialists have given me appointments for 2010 instead of the usual 2-3 months. All of my doctors have praised Shirley for keeping me going and giving me a new outlook on life. YES-S! I have a new attitude!
I discovered about 2-3 months ago that both of my Achilles tendons were frayed (this was not the results of any of my activities at Golds). I was able to complete eight weeks of boot camp with Shirley's guidance. My Podiatrist is in awe at the care and training I've received from Shirley. He also has been inspired to workout again. He now does push ups and pull ups ( in his office) if he has any wait time between patients. He wants to meet Shirley.
I promised you that my sister and I would do an interview. She has moved to Jacksonville. But, I am willing to be photographed before my next boot camp, and am willing to do an interview after boot camp. I am still a work in progress, but have come a long way.
Thanks to"The Jewel of Gold's Gym" or should I say the original JILLIAN.

“I don’t by no means want to be as big as you!”, “Just a little more cut that’s all.”
Tim Gordon, April 2009
Forty something… But not until September. I always wondered why so many people have trouble with birthdays... Turn forty.Tim Gordon, April 2009
I was thirty six, size forty waist. Blood pressure of 175/112. My doctor looked me in the face and asked me what my favorite flowers were. I should order a beautiful spray for my casket, before it was too late.
In a culture of self gratification, misconstrued paradigms and false beliefs it’s easy to see why so many people grow up fat with little or no direction in life. I was one of those people. My parents were typical in every aspect. Fast food restaurants and pizza delivery plagued my adolescence to a point where actual cooking was non-existent. I had the belief that I deserved it. I worked hard and I should enjoy the fruits of my labor.
It wasn’t until my father passed away at the young age of fifty that I began to realize, I was not the sole byproduct of my parents. I had choices. Revelations come to some after climbing mountains on their knees, for some it’s after a life altering experience. For me it was carrying dog food. I visited my local bulk grocery store to pick up a fifty pound bag of dog food. When I attempted to carried the bag to the cash register I fainted and dropped to my knees.
I thought at the time I was having a heart attack. It was on the way to the checkout that I passed some lard on a shelf.
That was the moment. I picked up the brightly colored box and shook it in my hand.
One pound of lard, One pound of fat
“Man I’ve got fifty of these strapped to my waste?”
I ran for a cart. Carrying a fifty pound bag of dog food was tough enough; loading in 50 pounds of lard was even harder.
I did what any other person would do. I went on a crash diet. You have all been there.
“Take this pill, three times a day!”, “Your fat will melt away!”
If it were only that easy.
I went to a “Doctors Clinic.”, took B12 injections and only ate 900 calories a day.
I created such a toxic environment within my body that gout forms when I eat red meat.
With every pound I lost, one more pound of lard would go in the fire pit.
Imagine if you may, fifty pounds of lard sitting on your kitchen table. It makes for a heck of a conversation piece.
I was all about quantifiable results.
I joined a reputable gym shortly thereafter and began what I believed was a reasonable workout regimen. Nautilus machines, working every body part, five days a week.
Heck I even gave aerobics and kick boxing a try. Sure I lost a little weight, firmed up a little, and felt a little better about myself. It only took the better part of eighteen months. Now that’s motivation!
I had seen “body builders” working out in the gym. So I would mimic their moves and copy their styles. Hoping somehow I to would look that great.
One day when working out at Gold’s Brooksville, I came across something I hadn’t seen before.
One of the trainers, Shayne Cahill was working out a woman, which I later found out was training for competition and his wife. I had never seen anyone work that intensely and be that determined.
Remember that line? “I don’t by no means want to be as big as you!”, “Just a little more cut that’s all”
I had five weeks of time left in Florida. Five weeks of intensive training. Five weeks of strict dieting.
Five weeks of the hardest, toughest, most demanding workouts I had ever pushed myself through. Five weeks of the best training of my life. Five weeks training with Shayne Cahill.
When someone pushes you to the limits of your abilities and then guides you through them, you’ve found a mentor.
I am an owner of three successful businesses. I have met some truly amazing people in my life.
No one person has made such a profound difference in my life as Shayne Cahill.
I believe a man’s character is judged by the things he does when no one’s watching.
I continue to work out daily, inspired by the transformations in my body and mind.
Guided by the lessons I have learned.
It’s always been your choice. You made the choice to join a gym.
Now it’s time to get productive. Now it’s time for progress.
Hire a trainer. Change your life.

I signed up for the One on One with Shirley Madera Jan 7, 2009.After three weeks training with Shirley, I was able to walk! Now when I mention walking, I mean I was not able to walk. For the past three years, I was not able to walk the mall, walk for five minutes out my drive and back without pain, discomfort and aches to the legs. To go to Sam’s Club, I would have to use the wheel chair, use the wheel chair if visiting any park facilities or walks requiring me to be on my feet for any length of time at all. It got to the point, I didn’t want to leave the house to go to church or grocery shop. I knew I was in big trouble if I didn’t have some help in strengthening my legs. I was in pain all of the time. At night I was not getting much sleep due to the pain in the hips and legs.
The use of the upper body was beginning to weaken as well. I was not able to lift anything, i.e.: a gallon of milk, lift my arms above my head very far or put my hands behind my head. I was beginning to feel so weak that to sit in a chair and not move was all I wanted to do. I had no incentive to eat, work on projects, take care of my home, go anywhere or do anything. You see, when you can’t, or don’t want to for any given reason, move…your body says…ok we won’t. Then you don’t, then soon you won’t be able to.
I did not want to end up in a wheelchair, gain more weight, never walk again and gradually lose all spark for life. But that was where I was headed.
But then I met Shayne, who gave me an inspiring introduction to the gym and what could be done to improve the body to be strengthened and alive once again, I felt a renewed faith and hope for the future. During the course of the conversation, he mentioned Shirley Madera and how she had lost so much weight, was doing so nicely with her body building routine etc. I wanted to meet her right away. I set up an appointment to meet Shirley.
Wow! What an inspiring, unintimidating, it will be worth it all young women Shirley Madera was. She got my respect immediately and I was ready to do whatever she might ask in the training sessions. So we started twice a week right away. Oh yes….not being an athletic type person (more into the music world than sports), the first couple of exercises during the workout ½ hour, I thought I would ‘die’! But I didn’t! After I got home I felt terrific and was ready to return for more training. Within a couple of days, I said to my husband, look, I can walk, I can actually get up out of this chair. Soon I was able to raise my arms above my head, look it here, I can actually put one arm then the other behind my head to the opposite shoulder. After three weeks, I was comfortable moving with a lot more ease. I was able to walk the treadmill….at first just 1.3 setting for only 10 minutes, then gradually increased to 2.5 for ½ hour. I was able to lift 5 then 10 lb weights, I could balance myself without feeling I was going to fall over. I started to lose lbs I didn’t want anymore. I could go outside and begin to walk down the street and actually enjoy walking. Soon I was able to walk the mall without any hesitation. People started to see the difference and make mention of it. What was I doing that changed my view on life, the respect that I now had for my body and how it was moving without pain, the night’s rest I was beginning to get without interruption from pain and discomfort. Things were looking up…much more positive.
Then I started to eat better…less junk food, sugars, more protein, veggies, fruits. I did see very clearly that sweets weakened my body and the protein, veggies and fruits strengthened the body.
The overall 12 week workout training sessions were worth every dollar and time spent with a one-on-one trainer. You see, human nature has it, if left on our own, we usually do what we have always done and will always get what we have always gotten. BUT…when we want a change, we change our thinking to making the right choices to get what we should be getting….and that, of course, is a healthier, more active stronger body and mind.
Thank you Shirley, Shayne and the program with Progress Personal Training Staff to assist others in becoming all that they could possibly want for a Healthier Person.

As a 43 year old woman I realized I was no longer in the shape I was once and became concerned with my physical condition. After nine months of dieting and losing 27 pounds I knew I needed more. While I was happy with the weight lose I knew I needed more to attain the toned figure I wanted. In all my life I have never been a member of a gym or formally worked out. With no experience or knowledge of where to begin I joined a gym and acquired the services of Progress Personal Training. The trainers listened to what my desires and interests were and established a workout regime. They knew exactly which exercises and equipment would benefit me most, she demonstrated each one and was aware just how much I could handle. They have an extraordinary ability to know exactly how much to push me. Although I have been through many sessions with them no two have been the same, as the trainers use a variety of techniques to achieve the desired goals. While the workouts are strenuous my trainer has the ability for making it fun and exciting I look forward to each and every session.
After just four months of training with Progress, they have helped me achieve my goals through nutrition and workouts.
I am thoroughly satisfied with Progress’s services and highly recommend them. Not only are they excellent trainers but they have become good friends.

(Sherri’s Husband)
I am writing as the husband of one of one of your clients. While it is clear Sherri has thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from her time with you; I have some issues with the results of her training.
1.Now whenever we go out most men and some women stop and stare at her.
2.My production at work has suffered because I find myself daydreaming about her.
3.We have had to incur the expense of a new wardrobe as she is a dress size or two smaller.
4.When we go out I’m afraid we will run into a friend that we haven’t seen in some time and they will think I’m cheating on my wife with a 20 year old.
Despite these concerns I ask you to continue exactly as you have. Sherri is obviously happy with the job you have done and the changes in her are remarkable. Along with the obvious physical changes is an increase in her energy level, confidence and self-esteem.

Kevin Morton
I was a little weary at first about hiring a personal trainer. I figured I worked out when I was in high school, so I knew what I was doing. After several months of getting nowhere, I picked up Progress’s card and gave them a call. On our first appointment we did an assessment to judge my level of fitness. Just after 5 minutes, I realized I wasn’t in the shape I thought I was. With my goal of being back in shape like I was in high school, I told Progress I would do whatever it takes to get me in shape. After just 2 months of working with Progress, I dropped 6 inches off my waist line. My blood pressure has dropped, as well as my cholesterol levels. Thank you Progress for instilling the belief of exercise as a way of life, verses a task for the day.Kevin Morton, 36
